An Okidata Color Laser Printer Is Different

There are two main technology differences in an Okidata color laser printer. They are Digital LED and Single Pass Color™ technologies. Because of these technology differences from their competition, Okidata refers to their laser color printers as digital color printers. Even though the name is different, an Okidata color laser printer / digital printer is still considered a laser printer class machine.
Digital LED (light emitting diode) used by an Okidata color laser printer / digital printer are tiny semiconductors that produce light and are mounted in a row to create a printed document. This digital LED creates an entire line of dots at one time while laser technology creates one dot at a time. The single dot creation by laser technology is because it uses a single light source to create a printed document. Laser printing technology requires 7 steps while digital LED requires one step for printing. According to Okidata, digital LED features solid state technology while laser assemblies use mirrors, motors and complex positional adjustment mechanisms. Therefore, an Okidata color laser printer / digital printer has fewer moving parts which means less things to break or have to be replaced.
Okidata color laser printer / digital printer still uses four toner cartridges with its Single Pass Color™ technology like other laser printers. However, as the name indicates, an Okidata color laser printer / digital printer places the colors on the paper and fuses them in a single pass. Other laser printers make a pass for each color, four passes in all.
Even with these technology advances, an Okidata color laser printer still has a competitive price point. Their pricing starts at around $300 for the desktop models to around $4,000 for the large business floor models.
