How many colors of ink in the cartridges does the average photo printer or ink jet printer use? I am just wondering how many different color cartridges the average ink jet uses and how many the average photo printer uses, because I see one that is a pack of 4 different colors and I am not sure?? Thanks All photos and all the colors can be made with the 3 basic Cyan, Magenta and Yellow colors. Some photo printers have more colors like Light Cyan, Light Magenta, Grey, etc. These typically just give more gamut and a slightly wider range of colors so that you see less graininess as the color transitions. An example would be using just the black cartridge to print grey. You'd print less and less ink and the color looks more greyish. But if you had a grey cartridge, then your color transition would look smoother as you can mix more color combinations.

Canon Pixma Ip4300 Ink Jet Printer

Inkjet printerCanon Pixma iP4300 is equipped with special printer head and ink system to provide good quality natural color prints of photographs, and sharp text prints. It has 5 color ink system which uses dye based ink cartridges of cyan, magenta, yellow, black colors and a pigment black cartridge. Canon Pixma iP4300 ink cartridges use inks till last drop due to the special design and is priced nominally.

The printer can be set to low noise mode which produces less noise but print output is slower. Control panel has small icons which are hard to read and the instructions to set up printer are not easy to understand. Prints of color photographs appear good on gloss paper but when ordinary paper is used it appears with more grains. Grayscale photo prints appear coarse and lines do not appear to be straight.

Canon Pixma iP4300 printer provides direct print port and USB 2.0 Hi-Speed interface. The printer has PictBridge port to just to connect compatible digital camera and video recorder for taking prints.

The software such as Easy-PhotoPrint and PhotoRecord are provided the manufacturer for editing and to organize photographs. Easy-WebPrint software is provided to format content of internet based downloads.

When Canon recommended photo papers are used, photo prints  last for several years. It provides good color prints with high resolution of 9600 x 2400 DPI and for black and white prints 600 x 600 DPI. The printer can print on front and back side of sheets and paper need not be flipped. The printer supports OS of Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP and Mac OS® X v.10.2.8 to 10.4.x.
