HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 – Ethernet Friendly Color Inkjet Printer
Offering buyers full color print capabilities for as little as 50% the cost per page of color laser printers, the HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 brings inkjet affordability with laser speed. With expandability options such as additional paper storage and wireless Jetdirect servers, the device is suitable for both home and office use.
With print resolutions selectable up to 1200 x 1200 dots per inch for black and white and up to 4800 x 1200 dots per inch for color, the HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 is ideal for printing either high quality text documents or color imagery. Print speeds run at up to 15 pages per minute for laser quality black and up to 11 pages per minute for laser quality color, though lower resolution settings are selectable for absolute maximum print speeds of up to 35 pages per minute in monochrome and up to 34 pages per minute in color.
Paper handling abilities include standard automatic duplexing, and can further reduce overall operating cost by reducing paper usage by virtually half. A standard 250 sheet input tray can be expanded with an additional 250 tray, and output capacity is locked at 150 sheets. No multimedia slot is included with the device but the standard trays can operate with certain special media types. Up to 55 sheets of 4 x 6 photos, up to 55 cards, up to 20 envelopes, and up to 60 transparencies can be loaded at once into the standard paper bins.
A single USB 2.0 port and Ethernet are the two connectivity options for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8000, which can further be accessorized with various Jetdirect print servers and a wireless printing upgrade kit. As a smaller duty device, the unit comes without a memory expansion option and is locked at 32 MBs, while a 384 MHz processor assists. Still, the unit does advertise a decent 15,000 page maximum monthly duty cycle, allowing for a fairly significant amount of output.
If problems do end up arising, the HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 comes with HP's standard limited warranty that also includes technical support. 2, 3, and 4 year next business day exchange warranties can be purchased directly from HP as well. The printer's height is very compact, standing at only 7 inches, yet its base runs at a slightly large 19.5 x 18.8 inches (W x D), and its weight is 17.2 pounds.
Photo friendly features such as borderless printing are selectable, though only up to the standard letter size of 8.5 x 11 inches. 4 individual LED indicator lights for each print cartridge are dedicated clearly on the front of the printer, along with 2 for printhead, 1 for network, 1 for resume, and 1 for power. The front panel control buttons include cancel, power, resume, and network.
As an Ethernet friendly color printer, the HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 would be perfect for use in a wired home, but its sufficient specification set also suggests that the device would be suitable for lighter duty, personal office demands.
